Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely a supporter of all things bright and bold – but when appropriate. For most homeowners, I suggest neutral fabrics for large items in a room such as sofas and loveseats or upholstered headboards. When purchasing these big ticket items, going with neutral options allows for the pieces to transition through stages and styles a little easier, which means you won’t tire of your furniture as quickly. Accenting with fashionable accessories enables you to update your design periodically while still using the neutral canvas.
At this years’ Toronto Interior Design Show, we saw a lot of textured neutrals for upholstery fabrics. In particular those in greys, stone and wheat were especially strong. Though neutral in colour, the textures add visual interest and would look beautiful accented with bright or pastel and even metallic fabrics, to reflect the season’s hot colours.
We have a variety of versatile furniture in beautiful neutrals in our showrooms and can custom order if you have preferences that aren’t available. Our design staff would love to show you how neutrals need not be boring, and the endless possibilities they provide!
Post a photo on our Facebook page of a room you need some advice with. One of our talented designers will take a look and let you know what they suggest!
